Empire Kosher Suspends Shipments of Alle Processing Products

Alle Processing Has Detected Listeria in Its Maspeth, New York Facility, Affecting Two Empire Products
All Other Products Appearing Under Empire Label Are Unaffected

MIFFLINTOWN, Pa., Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Empire Kosher Poultry, Inc., today reported that one of its outside suppliers, Alle Processing Corp., that does business under the name Schreiber Processing and markets under the Meal Mart brand of kosher food products, among others, has detected Listeria spp in its processing plant in Maspeth, New York. Furthermore, Alle informed Empire that this plant had been temporarily shut down by the USDA. Subsequently, Alle voluntarily recalled two Empire branded products -- IQF Buffalo Style Wings and Fried Chicken Assorted Pieces -- produced in Alle's facility.

Immediately upon learning of this matter, Empire suspended shipping all products produced in Alle's facility.

Empire has confirmed that no other product appearing under the Empire label is affected. These products continue to be available at all distribution points in North America and meet the most stringent safety, quality and Kashrus standards. Consumers are asked to return the affected products to their local retailer for a full refund.

Due to its unwavering commitment to food product safety, Empire took action upon being informed of Alle's Listeria contamination and prior to any formal recall. While Alle bears responsibility under USDA regulations for the recall of its products, Empire last week initiated its own regimen of testing products produced by Alle, and elected to proactively advise retailers and wholesale distributors to promptly retrieve the two affected products from
store shelves and distribution points.

Rob Van Naarden, President and CEO of Empire, said: "For more than 66 years, Empire has been proud to provide the finest kosher poultry products. We are grateful for our customers' continued support and wish to assure them that we will not ship any products produced by Alle until we and the USDA are confident that they are safe for consumption."

Consumers with questions about Empire products may call Empire at 1-800-367-4734. Food safety questions can be directed to the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 1-800-535-4555.

hmm _you_ say that the USDA shut them down, yet the _article_ says they shut down themselves. I wonder if you in general have issues with your identity and need to find fault in others. While few people deny that the Jewish community has problems. You seem to relish the though. Just thinking outloud here, but it seems you have inflated yourself by finding the "scandal", well its old news. Well its a free world, knock youself out.
